Asus ROG Phone 8 Ultimate Appears on Geekbench, Powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC

The Asus ROG Phone series has become the go-to option for gamers looking for no-compromise gaming smartphones. The company has continuously updated the lineup with high-end specifications and features designed to make it the best gaming device possible. A new addition to the lineup is expected soon, and a recent Geekbench listing of a mystery ASUS model has hinted at some key details about the upcoming handset.

In September, a phone with the model number ASUS_AI2401_A appeared on Geekbench, showcasing a single-core score of 2,213 points and a multi-core score of 7,408 points. This suggests the alleged phone will be equipped with the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, which offers better performance and battery life than its predecessors.

According to Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC is a 4nm chipset that can achieve a peak clock speed of up to 3.3 GHz. The chip also has a wide range of AI capabilities, and the company says it offers 30 percent more power and 20 percent more efficiency than its Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC.

The phone scored a respectable 5,213 points on the AnTuTu benchmarking platform. Regarding display resolution, the rumored handset features a 5.7-inch full HD+ IPS LCD panel with a 16:9 aspect ratio. This will give the phone a good viewing experience and provide ample game room.

On the software front, the alleged ROG Phone 8 Ultimate is expected to run Android 14 with the company’s custom ROG UI on top. It is also likely to pack a generous amount of RAM, allowing it to handle complex gaming titles.

Leaks and rumors suggest that the Asus ROG Phone 8 will be available in three variants: a standard version, a Pro model, and an Ultimate variant. The latter is expected to come with the most high-end specs and be a true flagship gaming smartphone.

The upcoming Asus ROG Phone 8 series is expected to succeed the ROG Phone 7 lineup, unveiled in April this year, and came with a ROG Phone 7 and a ROG Phone 7 Ultimate model. The company has yet to announce the launch timeline for its following gaming-centric handsets, but a launch sometime this year is reasonable.

The Asus ROG Phone 8 series is rumored to have several exciting features, such as an AeroActive Cooling system and HyperBoot technology for fast-booting and performance optimization. The phones will also support a variety of wireless connectivity standards, including 5G. Earlier, the Asus ROG Phone Ultimate was spotted on a 3C certification site, suggesting it could support 65W fast charging and 5G connectivity. More details about the upcoming Asus gaming smartphones will likely be revealed in the coming weeks. Stay tuned.
